Launching Our Newsletter

Dear RUMS Review readers,

Welcome to the first RUMS Review newsletter!

Updates

We have an ambitious year planned and are expanding and improving the RUMS Review in a multitude of ways:

1: This monthly newsletter

Here we will keep you updated on our magazine release dates, our events – speakers, workshops, magazine launches, collaborations with other societies – and opportunities to get involved with the RUMS Review, whether that be writing, editing, or designing.

A wider reading list is at the bottom of every newsletter.

2: Our new zine

We are launching a zine! It will focus on the arts – poetry, prose, art, and photography – in response to a medical-related theme. Anyone in the medical school can contribute.

OPEN TO SUBMISSIONS (theme of 'Culture')

Interpret this however you wish! Some prompts:

  • Ways of practicing medicine in different cultures
  • Traditional medicine
  • The 'culture' of medicine
  • Culture-bound syndromes

Submission deadline: Monday 16th December

3: Podcast

We are restarting our dormant podcast! Our first episode will be released next term.

4: Revamped Website

We are re-doing our website where you have access to all our previous editions, but now in a much sleeker way. Keep an eye out here.

Reading List

Our new “reading” list will include a selection of media and events, including articles, research papers, podcasts, and lectures related to medicine and the medical humanities. We hope that this sharing of ideas and interests outside of the set medical curricula will serve as a source of intrigue, inspire a RUMS Review article, or make you consider certain conditions, patients, or your medical practice in a new light.

As it’s Men’s Health Awareness Month, here are our curated choices on prostate cancer, […other topic…], for this week’s reading list:

Upcoming Edition

Our next edition is in the works and will be released online and in hard copy at the beginning of January!

Get in touch in January if you want to be a part of our spring edition! No previous experience or membership fee required ;)

 All the best,

The RUMS Review committee
